The Chainsmokers are a popular and world wide known DJ/production duo in New York consisting of Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart under the management of Adam Alpert. Pall had grown up DJing, made music and art history at the New York University, and he was working in Chelsea, Manhattan at an art gallery before he was introduced to Taggart by Alpert. Taggart, on the other hand, had taken an interest in DJing, and he released his songs on the Soundcloud website. He went to Syracuse University, and he was an intern at Interscope Records before meeting with Pall. He left Maine to go and join the duo after he was informed that there was a slot in a duo managed by Alpert after Bixler left.
They started by making a name for themselves by producing songs of their favorite indie bands which got a lot of streams, and they collaborated with Priyanka Chopra who is an Indian recording artist and actress, on a song they named Erase in 2012 which was followed by another one in 2013 called The Rookie. When they were asked by a reporter why they call themselves The Chainsmokers, Pall said he loved smoking weed in college and the time of conception was just like he was in college again, but Taggart said that it was just a name.
In 2013, December, they released their debut single “selfie” for free and Dim Mak Records took it over and then later released it in January the following year. The song was a breakthrough and life-changing for both of them since the single went international and it improved on the Dance Songs chart. They released “Kanye” a song that featured sirenXX on the 5th of August, 2014 and seven months later they featured Great Good Fine OK, which is an American synthpop group, in a song they named Let You Go.
The Chainsmokers have done many outstanding songs and performances, and they have managed to get to the top of several music lists such as the Billboard’s Dance 100 list. Their music blurs the lines between hip-hop, dance music, indie, and pop music. They have cited several artists as influences to their music. They have shown that great success lies in togetherness and commitment in what we do.
