Jacob Gottlieb is the founder and Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Visium Asset Management. Unlike many successful individuals in high profile leadership positions Gottlieb like to stay out of the public eye. This is especially unusual considering Visium is worth around $8 billion. Prior to founding Visium Gottlieb was a founding member at Balyasny Asset Management. Before he began founding his own companies he worked as an investment portfolio manager at Merlin Financial.
Gottlieb learned a lot about being a professional from his parents, who both were successful professionals. His fathers profession centered around business and his mother’s around medicine. It’s no wonder he decide to pursue a career in both economics and healthcare. Even now the successful businessman’s past helps guide his future.
Gottlieb showed early signs of being an investment wiz. When he was in junior high he won a stock investing contest at school. his parents knew that their son had a gift so they set him up with his own investment trading account.
Interested in pursuing a career in both economics and medicine he attended both Brown University, and NYU Medical School. He possesses a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Brown and a Doctor of Medicine from NYU. His interest in the stock market would lead to him quitting his pursuit if a career in the medical field despite having completed an internal medicine internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital. His goal was to become an expert in finance.
Along with his many successes in his professional career Gittlieb is also an avid philanthropist. He partakes in many endeavors put together by nonprofit organizations based in New York. He is an especially strong supporter of the Covenant House, an international organization focused on helping and protecting homeless youth. The organization has been operational for multiple decades.
